Volunteer Training To Be Held in January
Join the growing team of over 100 active volunteers for Beloit Regional Hospice on Saturday, January 14th and Saturday, January 28th, 2012 from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm at the Beloit Regional Hospice office, 655 Third Street, Beloit Wisconsin. This two day informal and interactive training will answer your questions on the end-of-life process, how to talk to the dying, hospice philosophy, pain & symptom management and spirituality. In the words of a recently trained volunteer, “The training opened my mind to the concept that death does not have to be the sinister black hole as culture has deemed it. There is no doubt that facing your own death (or that of a loved one) is incredibly daunting, but the hospice philosophy brings a calmness and dignity to the process.”
Hospice and Transitions volunteers are essential to the array of services offered by Beloit Regional Hospice and volunteers make their own schedules depending upon their availability. For this training, you must attend both days and registration is requested, so please call 608 363-7421 or email Sherrie Swanson, Volunteer Coordinator, at volunteer@beloitregionalhospice.com by January 6th to reserve your spot. Refreshments and a light lunch are provided each day.
Adult Grief Support Group
Beloit Regional Hospice will host a seven-week adult grief support group beginning on Thursday January 5th from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Beloit Regional Hospice offices located at 655 Third Street, Suite 200 in Beloit. Grief support groups and resources are open to anyone in the community who has experienced a death. Meeting with other people who are experiencing similar circumstances provides encouragement and support. Coping skills and various aspects of the grieving process are discussed.
Please call 608-363-7421 or toll free 877-363-7421 and ask for the Grief Department to register. There is no charge to attend, but advance registration is requested.
2011 Spirit of Caring Award Presented at Doves and Diamonds
Beloit Regional Hospice is pleased to announce that this year’s Spirit of Caring Award was presented to Skip Hoffman and Larry Hopper at the organization’s 7th Annual Doves and Diamonds gala. The Spirit of Caring Award is given annually to an individual, organization or business that has demonstrated dedication to strengthening the hospice concept in the Stateline community in an effort to improve quality of life. Hoffman and Hopper were nominated by the staff and members of the Board of Directors at Beloit Regional Hospice for their ongoing commitment to the organization. When presenting the award, Board Vice President Bill Sullivan said of Hoffman and Hopper, “Skip Hoffman and Larry Hopper, with great assistance from their wives and many volunteers, have provided extraordinary leadership in educating the community about Beloit Regional Hospice through an annual breakfast held at Skip’s restaurant in Afton. The hours of planning and hard work to create this terrific event that features live music, raffles, auction and delicious food have resulted in great visibility and thousands of dollars to support the mission of Beloit Regional Hospice.”
